The Move

My mother was up for 3 days helping me pack while I was at work.
She took a side trip with us to the new condo to unpack the china I inherited from her mother and we stopped by a futon store. I need a new mattress. The 5 year old thing has been pressed into oblivion by our asses. It's so bad if you sit there for the length of a movie (and god forbid a cat sit on your lap) everything from your tail bone down falls asleep. While we were there R called me from the Alderman’s office. He needed to know how long the moving truck was. He was getting signs for the street so we could block off space for them to park to unload at the new place. I called the movers, told them who I was and that they were going to be moving me this coming weekend and asked them how long the truck was.
“You need a truck this weekend?”
“No, I have one. I just need to know how long it is so I can mark off space for them to park”
“You need one now?”
“No, how long are your trucks”

I had arranged for them to move us in the afternoon on Saturday, it was all they had open. The range was between 1-3pm. I got a call from them on Thursday asking if they could come earlier.
Like when?
Like 9am.
No, that wont work, but thanks.

Friday I got a call confirming my Saturday move. He was sending 3 guys (tho’ I had only ordered 2 that was fine) a Biiiig truck and they would be here between 1-3pm. So imagine my surprise when I got a call from them at 9am Saturday asking if they could come earlier.
Like when?
9:30
You mean in half an hour?
-pause- yeh
No, I’ve already told “someone” that we can not do the morning. I will see them between 1-3pm. Thank you

This weekend R's Mother and Step-dad came up to help with the move. They brought up some furniture and helped with the final packing while the movers moved. The movers worked fast and we were over at the new place with in 2 hours. This was when they decided to argue with R about parking on the street. He told them they could not park in the access driveway to parking. He thought they understood. Moments later I SCREAMED a string of profanities at them as they backed the van into the drive and hit the wrought Iron gate catching it on the front of some part of the van.

Being as the van was wedged in so tight I decided not to argue and let them unload. Unfortunately it wasn’t until after I had paid them and they left that we realized the gate wad bent out of shape and it couldn’t be closed or locked.

Great. Hi we’re your new neighbors the gatecrashers!
